CCOA – Aging, Weatherization and Human Services, (formerly known as Canyon County Organization on Aging), has been serving our area’s senior and low-income population for the past 37 years. CCOA’s mission is to promote self-sufficiency and to assist individuals live independently with dignity and autonomy.

To meet our mission, CCOA’s programs include the following:

Senior Transportation is available to those 60 years of age and older to meet medical, nutritional, employment, educational, social and recreational needs.

Medicare Education assists with Medicare Health Plan questions and provides Medicare fraud and abuse education.

Weatherization provides assistance to income qualified homeowners or renters with energy conservation services.

In-Home Services consists of homemaker and personal care services. Both of these programs are designed to provide in-home support to seniors. Chore service performs minor household repairs and maintenance.

Prescription assistance serves as an advocate between low-income individuals, their physicians and pharmaceutical companies to access essential medications.

Representative Payee program assists Social Security recipients with bill paying and budgeting.

Adopt-a-Senior coordinates with volunteer sponsors to provide groceries once a month to income qualified seniors.

ECHO (telephone reassurance) provides daily telephone reassurance to seniors, disabled, or isolated individuals.

CCOA receives limited and dedicated funding for only two of our programs. Enormous supporters of our efforts are the City of Caldwell and Canyon County. Best Bath Systems Relocates Manufacturing Facilities to Caldwell

Some corporate offices to move to Kuna as company initiates long-term growth plans

Caldwell, Idaho – Best Bath Systems, a leading innovator in safe and accessible shower and walk-in tub products, has purchased a 106,000 sq. ft. plant in Caldwell, ID to serve as their new manufacturing center. The facility began operations on June 28, 2010. The company has also relocated their sales and marketing departments to their Kuna offices.

Best Bath Systems has been manufacturing bathing products in the Treasure Valley since 1971. Privately held by Gary and Susan Multanen, the company employs 87 people. Current plans call for the staff to grow to over 100 employees by the end of 2011.

For ten years Multanen has been focused on a strategy to position Best Bath for the continued growth he is confident will take place. He said the Garber Street location is an ideal facility for 40-50 years into the future. The recent economic recession delayed Best Bath’s growth plans with sales dropping from $23 million in 2008 to $18 million in 2009.

There will be modest growth in 2010 and projections for 2011 show sales should top $20 million again.

Best Bath products are sold throughout the USA and Canada. More than 50% of their sales are east of the Mississippi River. “That is simply a matter of demographics,” commented Jeff Mooney, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. The company has two sales divisions, one focused on the commercial market and the other on residential renovation. There are 300 Best Bath Systems dealers nationwide who sell and install safe bathing products in residential homes for people who find they can no longer navigate the barriers of traditional bathtubs and showers.

The commercial sales team is made up of eight territory managers, each with multiple-state responsibility. They concentrate their efforts calling on architectural firms securing specifications for Best Bath products in senior housing facilities, assisted living facilities, university housing and hospitals. Recent housing authority renovation initiatives, especially on the east coast and in Texas, have contributed to their sales rebound.

Safe bathing products that receive the most attention in today’s marketplace are walk-in bathtubs. Best Bath was the first company in the USA to manufacture walk-in tubs on a commercial basis. They currently private label for two companies and manufacture their own brand sold through the dealer network.

FOR IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION “I USE IT EVERYDAY” TELEVISION CAMPAIGN

Peppershock Media, a full-service advertising agency located in Nampa, Idaho has won a national-level Bronze Telly Award for excellence in television/cable advertising for its “Math Matters” television campaign. The Telly Awards was founded in 1978 to honor excellence in local, regional and cable TV commercials. Today, the Telly is one of the most sought-after awards by industry leaders, from large international firms to local production companies and ad agencies. The spots were created after the Idaho State Department of Education approached them about creating a communication piece to promote awareness about the Idaho Math Initiative and the importance of math in many common Idaho jobs. “Through these public service announcements, we were able to highlight the importance of mathematics education and the critical role the Idaho Math Initiative will play in better preparing Idaho students for the 21st century,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna. The spots feature 10 real Idahoans at their jobs, and how they “use it [math] everyday” in each occupation. The spots were broadcast on television, the Internet and in movie theatres across the State. Peppershock also received a first place award in May 2009 from the Idaho Press Club for the campaign.
